ARTIST STATEMENT
Nestled in the picturesque and historic city of Portland, my studio is just minutes from the rugged beauty of the Atlantic coastline. Drawing on my artistic heritage, I craft a personal narrative inspired by my surroundings and travels throughout the state of Maine. My images reflect a deep appreciation for creativity and imagination, infused with a sense of spirituality that brings out the essence of their beings. I look for lost, overlooked, abandoned and forgotten things and places. Through my lens, I strive to capture not just the outward appearance of a scene or subject but the unseen energy, emotion, and presence that make them unique. It's the quiet mystery my work seeks to transcend in the ordinary and reveal something deeper—something that resonates on an emotional and spiritual level. Each image is an invitation to pause, reflect, and connect with the quiet beauty and hidden narratives that exist in the world around us.
In addition to my broader body of work, I have also created an extensive oeuvre dedicated to cats.
I use 2 cameras, a Leica Q for digital and a Kodak Instamatic X-15F for film. I believe the Kodak offers photographs where an appreciation of photography is essential.
I primarily exhibit in Maine and New York plus take great joy in contributing my work to fundraisers.
BIO
I earned my BFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts and also attended the Maine Media Workshops. My career began in New York City, where I worked in administration for two top stock photography agencies and served as a teacher’s assistant at the International Center of Photography. For a decade, I stepped away from photography to explore other professional paths, such as working as an Arts Ambassador for the Westchester Arts Council and later as a Paralegal. I returned to photography and have since pursued my journey as a fine art photographer. I now live in Portland, Maine, where I had started as Organizer for the Maine Photography Meet-Up for five years, then became Gallery Manager for four years, with the Union of Maine Visual Artists. I am also a member of the Griffin Museum of Photography.
